DONATE BOOKS & MEDIA
We rely on your book and media donations to provide scholarships for young women from five local high schools each year!
The College Women’s Club of Montclair (CWCM) is a 501c3 nonprofit composed of women with post-secondary education who believe strongly in the advancement of women through education and advocacy. We work to promote educational opportunities for women, provide financial aid to high school seniors pursuing higher education, and gather for social events.
WHERE TO DONATE
The College Women’s Club of Montclair has been collecting, sorting, and reselling used books, movies, and music to fund scholarships for local young women for over 85 years.
We accept book and media donations at 26 Park Street in Montclair, NJ (lower level of the Technopulp Building, across from the YMCA) ONLY on designated days and times (see below).
WHEN TO DONATE
The following SATURDAYS from 9:30am – 11:45am:
- DEC 6, 13, 20
- JAN 10, 17, 24, 31
- FEB 7, 14, 21, 28
- MAR 7, 14
The following SUNDAYS from 12:00pm – 2:00pm:
- DEC 14
- JAN 11
- FEB 22
- MAR 15
HOW TO DONATE
We appreciate your following the guidelines below when dropping off donations:
- For tax receipts, please come prepared with a count of how many of each item you’re donating
- Package donations in bags or boxes (plastic over paper grocery bags work very well, as do smaller boxes such as wine/beer boxes or file/banker’s boxes)
- Use containers that you can leave with us
- Bags should be sturdy and not overfilled; boxes should be have max dimensions of 10” x 12” x 15”
- Limit your donations to 10 bags and/or boxes per person, per week
WHAT TO DONATE
Attendance at our programs and volunteering with our semi-annual Used Book, Movie & Music Sale are open to all, regardless of gender or membership status. We welcome your clean, gently used books and media, including:
- Magazines from before 1980, except for National Geographic which must be from before WWII
- Hardcover and softcover books, adult and children, English and other languages, fiction and nonfiction [no encyclopedias]
- DVDs, CDs, records, and audio books, in their original printed jackets or cases [no cassette tapes, 78’s, or self-recorded media (we can’t legally resell those)]
- Sheet music, maps, postcards
WHAT NOT TO DONATE
We CANNOT ACCEPT anything that is:
- Falling apart
- Moldy
- Heavily underlined
- Otherwise unsuitable for sale
We also DO NOT ACCEPT the following:
- Encyclopedia sets
- Reader’s Digest Condensed books (or similar)
- Textbooks (unless quite recent or very old)
- AAA travel guides or maps
- Travel guides that are more than 3-4 years old (unless they are very old)
- Puzzles or board games
- American Heritage or Horizon magazines
- Magazines more recent than 1980
- VHS tapes (video tapes)
